Friday Randoms

1. Excited to have some FUN FUN FUN friends in town this weekend... Jen + Nichol, and my longtime friend Emily + her hubby.  I've planned lots of yummy places I'm taking them to eat and drink.

2. I heard this song on Parenthood from this week and love it.  Have already listened to it many, many times.  Hello, are you a Parenthood fan yet?!!! :)

3. The lovely April sent me a box of Studio Calico's new line called Documentary.  And it is so awesome.  Exactly the kind of line I get obsessed with.  I had to email her and the graphic designer Stephen to tell them my favorite part of the line was this sticker...

...which is a line from 30 Rock.  Tina Fey's daughter said it and she thought it would be exactly something that Tracy Jordan would say on the show.  Now it has become part of my vernacular.  And nobody ever gets it.  Except Stephen and April.  Hallelujah.  

4. I am excited to get this stamp from Hero Arts...

I want to use it on every single NYC page. 

5. I'm planning on doing another online class this summer.  Possibly a sequel to the Sketchbook class.  Is there any interest?  Which month would work best for you?

6. And finally, I was out with a friend last night in Soho and we realized... Fleet Week has arrived...

Snapshots of My Weekend: 5.2.10

This evening I was hounding my bestie Sare about blogging some photos from her recent trip to California when I realized I never really blogged any of mine.  So hop into my Delorean because we're going back in time for some Snapshots of My Weekend in California.

The last Friday of April I had my first Reflections classes and I loved every minute of it.  I stole this photo from Kelly of us taking a little lunch break by the pool before class.  With Liz + Maggie around, how could I not have a blast?!  Impossible.  I also had the best time hanging out with Suzy... who was telling me here that she could catch me in the palm of her hand and clearly I thought this was the most ridiculous thing ever ;)  Before we left, Maggie and I did some more jumping.  Then after Reflections was over I drove down to San Diego with a stop at Moonlight Beach.  It was an amazing weekend.

The whole trip just made me happy.  I think the fresh air and California sunshine did me good... it came at a time when I really needed a break.  And believe me, I made the best of my week out west...

I spent some time in San Diego with Elena, the Padres, the sea lions, and the meerkats at the zoo.  Then I drove back up to Santa Monica (with a stop at In-n-Out on the way) (ok ok so full disclosure - I made two trips to In-n-Out in a matter of two days) to stay with my best friend Kellie + her fiance.  Being with them is just like going home.  It's so, so nice.  While I was in Santa Monica I got to see old friends Lisa, Amy, and Jessica... all amazing ladies.  The amount of girl talk that was crammed into this one week was wonderful.  Exactly what I needed.  Before leaving LA I made a stop at Sprinkles + the Getty for two things that I love best.  

I'm lucky in life for a lot of reasons but two of the big ones are 1) I get to travel to fantastic places and 2) I am blessed with incredible friends to share the adventures with.

And now I want to go back, please.

Snapshots of My Weekend: 5.23.10

Loved your comment on the Confessions post.  As for the cupcakes... I don't know why the love affair ended?!  Quite sad, isn't it? ;)  I don't find myself craving sweets as much anymore, in addition to being a bit more conscious about eating better.  More healthy greens, less pink frosting.  Until friends come to town and then I'm all about the cupcakes and pizza and Shack burgers!

CKC Buffalo was a blast... all my classes were wonderful and I loved chatting with the fun ladies there.  It was just a great venue.  And so happy I got to share the weekend with my buddy Megan and get to know Becky.  They are such fun.  On my flight home I was upgraded to first class, which was nice since we just sat on the plane for over an hour.  Yesterday I went down to Soho to get some fabric at Purl.  They have a new store and if you've ever been to their old one you know that this space is enormous now!  Then I was introducted to Bianca, where we had yummy mussels and the best ever lasagna.  So good.

I'm here in Buffalo for CKC this weekend.  And for some buffalo wings too, I'm sure.

This week I had the opportunity (thanks to my friends at CK!) to walk the floor at the National Stationery Show in NYC... it was an awesome experience.  Totally inspiring.  I took a lot of photos of my favorite things - lots of letterpress naturally - and wanted to share a quick one from one from a booth that I adored:

I feel like I should write more since I actually remembered my password and took the time to sign into Typepad.  So I thought I'd share my List of Confessions I'm Thinking About Instead of Sleeping.  Ala Cathy and Steph.  Although maybe they were actually sleeping when they were supposed to be and not trying to blog... cause I know they're smart ladies.  Total smarties.

1) I dream about having skinny legs.

2) The most played song on my iTunes is Ingrid's The Hat.

3) I stay in the same hotel every time I go to Miami Beach.

4) Wine makes me so sleepy but I'd drink a glass of dessert wine after every meal if I could.

5) Walking the Brooklyn Bridge is one of my favorite things in the world.  I want to do it with everyone I care about.

6) Walking through the Village and just talking on a great New York night is also a favorite.

7) The other day I had to Google "how to cook asparagus" then gave up and called my mom to ask.

8) I miss Chicago and often think of moving back home.

9) I hate having discussions over email because I write too much and I hate having to talk about things over the phone because I babble too much.

10) Chloe once told me she could have an entire conversation with just my facial expressions.

11) I love love love the show Parenthood.

12) My Grandpa grows tomatoes on his farm and I eat them like apples.  With salt.

13) I have a tramp stamp.  And it kinda makes me feel badass.

14) 2010 has been a rough year.  I have high hopes for the second half.

15) The other day I had a dance party by myself in my bedroom instead of working.

16) If I never own a car again, it will be just fine with me.

17) I really hate dating.  Really.Hate.

18) I went out with a guy who got out of one of the towers on 911.  Then I cried on the subway home.

19) Last night I watched Garden State.  I forgot what a great movie + soundtrack that is.

20) I kind of don't eat cupcakes that much anymore.  Are you shocked?  Disappointed?!!

Snapshots of My Weekend: 5.16.10

Why yes indeedy I am three weeks behind on posting my Snapshots.  But... I have some super fun ones from last weekend to share so soon someday possibly in this calendar year I will get caught up.

Friday was kind of a crap day, but I my tulips bloomed and I worked with them in my face all afternoon.  On Saturday Linda and Cindy (they are the best!!!) arrived for a weekend visit and the first place I took them was the Shake Shack.  Of course.  Then the Brooklyn Bridge... then made them walk + walk + walk + walk + eat.  Sunday i took an awesome class at The Arm in Brooklyn on how to use two kinds of letterpress machines.  Did I ever tell you I'm going to marry a letterpress machine?  Well, I am.  I was in pure heaven there for seven hours and I can't wait to go back to print some of my own designs.  And a walk later that night included catching the sunset over New Jersey.  Can you see that star next to the moon?  Yes, I made a wish on it.

I was taking it so easy in California that I forgot I had a blog.  And that I am supposed to post in the blog.  Otherwise you lovely blog readers are going to abandon me.

But now I'm battling a cold and it might be a few days before I can get those posted.  So in the meantime, I thought I would share two of the layouts I created for my Reflections class... I kind of love how these turned out :) I hope my students did too!

California Girl

Reflections was amazing... I had THE BEST time.  My students were terrific and I had so much fun the whole weekend.  Such a great event and so happy I could be part of it!

I'm still in California spending time in San Diego and then up to Santa Monica for a few days.  I think the fresh air and sunshine is doing me good.  I needed some time to think and refresh this week so it's perfect timing.  I've got tons of photos to share but need to go through them all.  One quick one of Liz + Maggie + me attempting to all jump together :)
