Once upon a time... back in the month of May... there was a giant food festival called Googa Mooga. People traveled from far away lands (Umami Burger from LA!) to attend this fine event. I won a jousting battle (with the crazy ticket system) to get a chance to go. It was to be quite the feast with the hottest/trendiest/best restaurants + chefs representing. However, it turned out to be madness and (as I get to use a favorite line from Girls here) all of Brooklyn and two-thirds of Manhattan were there. I'm not exaggerating... everyone was there. Insanely long lines, no cell service to find your friends, and I went home hungry. Cluster. Which means The Great Googa Mooga is now The Food Festival Who Must Not Be Named. Check out the starving people:
So when Big Apple BBQ rolled around this past weekend, I was skeptic. The event fills up Madison Square Park and the bordering streets. Crowds of people. My doubts, however, were quickly put to rest and I definitely enjoyed taking a bite of this block party. Fun with friends, easy access to the food, and the kind of satisfaction that only comes from eating plateful after plateful of pork. Hog heaven.
We sampled four different places with the winner (which happened to be a rec from my friend Jodi via Instagram - cell service working at this festival booya!) being the ribs from Pappy's. Do you live in St. Louis? Consider me very jealous.
I got my food. I got my friends. I got my rootbeer float to top it all off. Faith in food festivals fully restored.
