Last night I attended an event in the rooftop terrace at The Standard Hotel down in the East Village. I still clearly remember the elevator doors opening, stepping into the room, then immediately being pulled outside to the deck - lured by the view.
Once I stepped outside, I literally lost my breath. The entire city was there, rumbling below and sprawled out right in front of me. I've never seen the skyline from this far downtown (only from the Top of the Rock at Midtown) and could see all four bridges, the new Freedom Tower, and the bright W across the river in New Jersey. New York looked beautiful.
I definitely regretted not having my camera and only snapped these photos with my phone, but I was drunk on the view. As it began to get dark and the lights of the city slowly started sparkling against the gray sky, I smiled even more. This was the kind of sight that makes you think you are on top of the world, you can do anything you want, and everything you need is right here. I love this city.
