In all my trips to Brooklyn, I've never been to the neighborhood of Greenpoint. I've edged around it many, many times in Williamsburg but haven't adventured into Greenpoint. That is, until a few weeks ago, when there was a very good reason for us to head in. The mission for this trip was a girls dinner at the new restaurant, Lobster Joint.
Lobster Joint's slogan is "serving traditional New England comfort food" and I can't imagine a better welcome to this new neighborhood. We ordered, then parked at one of the picnic tables in the large back patio. Amanda is friends with the chef + owner so once the food started arriving at our table, it didn't stop.
We sampled a plate full of crab cake sliders, a pan of lobster mac 'n cheese, a delicious bowl of clam chowder, amazing popcorn shrimp, tasty fried clam strips, and a giant lobster roll with heaping chunks. Plus a side of crunchy pickles that complimented it all perfectly. This food is good. Really really good.
Suffice to say my first trip out to Greenpoint was more than successful. A great night with the girls and Lobster Joint, with its tasty feasts and big backyard, is definitely worth the train rides. Well done, Brooklyn. Well done.
