Back in August I had about half a day to explore the city. I knew exactly what I wanted to do: a design hunt. I was on the hunt for some great inspiration in one of the most creative cities. And as a true design geek, I was so excited.
I headed to Shoreditch because I wanted to start the day with coffee in the cafe at the new Ace Hotel. You know what an Ace junkie I am and this one did not disappoint. It's beautiful. I grabbed coffee and headed out wandering west.
Traveling through Europe over the summer, I've seen a lot of concept stores but London did them best by far. They were so well branded from head to toe and I ate it up.
My favorite store by far was called Material. It is the best store I've ever stepped foot in. Drastic, I know. But true. I loaded up on books, magazines, stationary, a few prints, and gift wrap. All of it well designed + beautiful. I lugged about 50lbs worth of material around with me for the rest of the day and it was so worth it. Go here. Go!
I wanted to make a trip to the Tate Modern but opted for the London Design Museum since I've never been. It's a small museum with only three exhibits, but I found the gift shop to be a goldmine. I picked up a few design books and a lot of inspiration.
I think that sums up my design hunt nicely. The day passed by quickly and I ended up running out of time before being able to hit all the places I wanted to get to. But I guess that just calls for a return trip soon.
