Thanks to lazy days in Paris and insanely long flights (new life rule - book the nonstop flights) this month, I've had a lot of time to put my nose into some good books. Here's what I've been reading this month:
Me Before You by Jojo Moyes - this is a heartwrencher. I posted this one on Instagram and had a lot of comments from people who enjoyed it. I also enjoyed it but wanted more. More depth to the characters maybe? That being said, I sobbed through the last third of it and am interested to check out the sequel coming later this year.
The Interestings by Meg Wolitzer - fantastic book on friendship and how friends change/grow/grow apart/love through decades. I loved this book, it was great storytelling and the characters felt very real to me. I was sad when it was over and I think that's a sign of a good book.
The Marriage Plot by Jeffrey Eugenides - I couldn't put this one down, mainly because I was just so curious what was going to happen in the end. It's an interesting love triangle and billed as a great love story. I am a huge fan of Eugenides' Middlesex (it's probably one of my all-time favorite books) and think he's a really great storyteller who can weave in so many different pieces. While I didn't think this one matches Middlesex, it gave me a lot to think about and was a really good read. (And if you haven't read Middlesex, go get it now!)
I'll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson - I had this recommended to me and I started the first chapter during a flight earlier this month. It is a bit of a slow starter for me but looking forward to digging into it more.
Paper Towns by John Green - this is packed in my suitcase this week for Hawaii. I was on the camp who enjoyed The Fault in Our Stars (which I also read on a flight and had to keep closing it because I was embarrassed to be crying so much seated smack dab between two people.) My copy has a large sticker on it proclaiming it's going to be a movie soon, so looking forward to that as well.
Now that I have Powell's right down the street from where I live, I find myself popping in there often just to browse. There are so many books I want to take home with me. What are you reading this month? Previous reading lists can be found here.
