I tend to get very attached to parks. They beome like friends to me. In New York, it was Madison Sq Park. We had a special friendship. That was the place I would escape to just to hide away from the world. People watch. Calm my mind. And Shake Shack, obviously. In Paris, it was Le Palais Royal. My favorite of the many, many beautiful parks.
I spent quite a few hours sitting in this park. Endless photos were taken. Hidden back away inside the square, you don't even know it's there in the middle of the city. I think that's one of my favorite things about it. Almost a secret garden.
A little secret tip for you is that Cafe Kitsune is inside the square. They have good coffee, ice cream, and free wifi - which can be key. I'm a fan.
Once I rode the subway home after a Broadway show in NYC, sitting across from a woman in her 80's who was paging through her playbill. That is going to be me someday, I thought, picturing myself as an old woman heading home to the Upper West Side by herself after enjoying some theater. That picture of future me changed when I started noticing a woman frequently sitting in Le Palais Royal, just a bit back from the fountain, by herself and always wearing a pink coat. She is there so often that I've even seen her in Instagrams posted by others from the garden. That is going to be me someday, I've decided. Living out my old age in Paris, spending time enjoying life, appreciating my close friendship with my favorite park.
