When I was in San Francisco last month, a friend of my friend's offered to give us a tour of Airbnb's headquarters and I'm not kidding when I say it made my day, week, month! I love a good luxe hotel but I truly believe that Airbnb is a game changer for traveling. It's a great company that I believe in.
If you're not familiar with Airbnb, what it is a travel service that allows you to search, book, and stay in a home instead of a hotel or hostel. You can choose on the site to book an entire place (house, apartment, or even castle) to yourself, book a private room in someone's home, or a shared room. You can book places to stay around the world. And best of all, it's a cheaper than staying in a hotel.
Actually best of all is that you get to feel like a local. You get to come home. You have access to a kitchen and a real living space. I love this company because I feel like they've opened up the world for travelers. You can go anywhere and feel like you're at home. Plus, it's affordable for those of us who have smaller budgets when traveling. If you're traveling with a few people or as a family, it's easier to rent an entire house with multiple bedrooms rather than a couple of hotel rooms. All good things.
Here's just a few photos I snapped of their headquarters. It's beyond cool. They've done an amazing job of decorating the space and have really invested in making it a place people are happy to be. And everyone - I mean everyone - I met was so happy to work there. More good things.
The conference rooms are designed and decorated to be exact replicas of spaces listed on Airbnb. There's a meeting room that is designed to look like a space you can rent in Bali - the details match all the way down to the tiled floors. My jaw kept getting closer to the floor with each room we entered. You can check out more info + photos on this post from Refinery29.
I thought it would be fun for this Five on Friday to share five dreamy listings on Airbnb that I would love to book (there are so, so many to choose from!)
My favorite of favorite places, Camp Wandawega (see my photos of my visit here) is also bookable through Airbnb here - go go go! And my awesome friends Becca + Sean have their guest house listed on Airbnb in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She is THE hostest with the mostest, so if you're in the area (summertime in Michigan is wonderful) be sure to check it out.
One last thing to note, this post was not sponsored by Airbnb in any way but if you sign up and book or (list your space to host) through this link - invite - you get $25 in credit and so do I. Win win. Now go out and see the world!
