Seeing the sun set from the top of the Metropolitan Museum of Art has been on my to-do list for quite a long time now, so up we went on Saturday night. An Amanda + KP date night. There are two spectacular sights up there right now - the amazing sunsets that we've been treated to lately and the Cloud City exhibit. A friend described it as a jungle gym made of mirrors and that description is pretty correct. Five million self-portraits just waiting to happen (and I did indeed take advantage and snapped about 2 million.)
Cloud City is awesome. You can read more information about it here, but let me say it really is like climbing up into the sky. You feel like you're walking on air and to be honest with you, it made my palms sweat a bit when I was up walking around. You take a step onto the clear plastic and it's like you're stepping out onto... nothing. Thrilling and fun all wrapped into one.
The roof of the Met also delivers a view out onto the park and another fantastic view of the skyline (of which I've been quite addicted to lately.) We hit it at the right time and the sun went down as Amanda + I walked through the air in Cloud City.
I have to add that the staff at the Met were genuinely kind and helpful. From the guy at the main ticket desk who called up to make sure we could still get tickets to Cloud City, to the guy who gave us the last tickets for the night, to the girl who guided people through the sculpture. It's nice to find that in the city.
Two happy girls on a Saturday night, enjoying a trip up up up into the sunset.
