A few weeks ago my friend Don came to Chicago for a quick visit. We had only one day to explore the city and since he is a bartender at Rich Table, one of San Francisco's best restaurants, I felt I had to show off what my city has to offer. So we ate. And ate. And ate. And went to a party. Then ate some more.
Here's a round-up of the places we hit and I highly recommend any (and all!) of these if you're coming to Chicago. They're some of my favorites and the best things you can eat here.
GT Fish + Oyster: oysters and clam chowder | Bangers + Lace: cheese curds, sausages, saison | Longman + Eagle: whiskey and coffee on tap | Yusho: hamachi collar | Little Goat Diner: smoked pork + toffee crunch milkshake | Au Cheval: cheeseburger with a fried egg
If there is one single thing I can recommend you try it is the cheeseburger at Au Cheval. I've eaten a lifetime of cheeseburgers and this is one of the best. Ever. I've had this burger twice after midnight and I have to say that it's the perfect late night snack. Or any time snack. Like I mentioned, this food tour is not for the weak of heart. Tread wisely.
