One of our days in Marseille was bookmarked for a trip out to Iles du Frioul. There are a four islands about 4km from the mainland and ferries that easily take you out there. Beautiful beach, here we come!
We took the ferry directly out of the port and the views on the way out were fantastic. The ride was only about 20 minutes but watch out for those waves - the ride was a bit choppy and I ended up quite wet. Once we got to the island we took Le Petite Train, which seems to be a standard way to travel in a lot of cities we visited, to the beach.
The beach of St. Esteve is tiny, with a mixture of rocks and sand. It was quite windy on the day we went but the water made up for all the sand being blown everywhere. Shades of turqouise, cold but not freezing, and salt so you float to the top. It was perfect. I swam out as far as I dared into the water and just laid back looking up into the sky. I don't think life gets more perfect than that.
At 5pm we caught the last Le Petite Train and then the ferry back to Marseille but I have to say I wasn't ready to leave. However, an even better beach awaited us the very next day. Stay tuned.
