I never posted about Erin and my visit to the city of Chiang Mai, so I thought I'd start with my favorite part... our Thai cooking class. This was an awesome experience. I think Erin rated it her number one favorite experience of our trip, and it was second on my list (only behind the ellies!)
On our last day in the city we signed up to spend the morning at the Asia Scenic Thai Cooking School. I think we spent about four hours there and there were other options to spend an entire day. Now I love love love to eat, but cooking is far from being my forte. Very far. But our little cooking class opened my eyes and I enjoyed it so much! If only my kitchen here wasn't the size of a bathtub... I'd be happy to experiment some more.
We started the class by learning about different plants to use for flavor and took a trip to a local market, which as you can imagine I really enjoyed.
Our teacher was this sweet, funny Thai girl who was so professional but had an awesome sense of humor. She often encouraged us to add more spice to our dishes, saying that more spicy = more sexy!
I was happy to discover that Thai food has very simple ingredients and so nothing we made was too complicated. And it included a lot of fresh veggies, which were delicious.
We were able to pick three dishes to make, along with a curry. Erin made some great vegetarian dishes, while I made chicken pad thai, spring rolls, prawn soup, and red curry. I have to say it was the best pad thai I've ever eaten. Not that I'm biased or anything.
Mmm mmm good. It was fun to go back through these photos today and remember the great time we had it's definitely something I'd like to do again when I travel to a new city. Now who wants to come over for some pad thai and spring rolls?
